kateKate Joynes-Burgess is a British writer, photographer, and political analyst based in the Cotswolds. After four years in eminently urban Mexico City, she is hungrily reacquainting herself with the great British outdoors from gardens to parks, hills to hiking trails, valleys to coastal plains.

Seeking out perfect pubs, and fantastic farmers’ markets, makes her happy too. No wonder she is penning a new iPhone app on the Cotswolds for San Francisco-based Sutro Media. She loves cooking and sampling exotic food (especially escamoles – literally ant eggs – a kind of Mexican caviar) but misses bacon sandwiches and West Country cider when on the road.

Maintaining her predilection for Latin America and the Caribbean, she is author of the first edition Explorer’s Guide to Belize (Countryman Press, 2010), where her photographic work also appears. Her penchant for politics, culture and travel has got her published in the UK, the US, Portugal, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Guatemala. She was the lead contributor to Time Out’s first guidebook to Mexico City and the Best of Mexico and covered Cancun and the Riviera Maya for the bilingual Mayan World guidebook to southern Mexico for Editorial Mapas.

She is published regularly by the BBC News website, Travel+Leisure and Travesias while her work has also appeared in The Spectator, International Herald Tribune and fashion bible Women’s Wear Daily. She holds an MA and BA (Hons.) in English Language and Literature from Oxford University and a Masters with distinction from the Institute for the Study of the Americas, University of London. In 2009 she was awarded an honours diploma in Freelance and Travel Writing from the London School of Journalism.
