kateKate Joynes-Burgess is a British writer, political analyst and photographer with a predilection for Latin America and the Caribbean. Currently her attentions are firmly focussed on the bijou Central American country of Belize. She is author of the forthcoming guidebook Belize: Great Destinations (2011), published by Countryman Press, where her photographic work will also appear.

She loves cooking and sampling exotic foods (especially escamoles – literally ant eggs – a kind of Mexican caviar) but misses bacon sandwiches and English beer when on the road. Her penchant for politics, culture and travel has got her published in the UK, the US, Portugal, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Guatemala. She was the lead contributor to Time Out’s first guidebook to Mexico City and the Best of Mexico and covered Cancun and the Riviera Maya for the bilingual Mayan World guidebook to southern Mexico for Editorial Mapas.

She is published regularly by the BBC News website, Travel+Leisure and Travesias while her work has also appeared in The Spectator, International Herald Tribune and fashion bible Women’s Wear Daily. She holds a Masters with distinction from the Institute for the Study of the Americas, University of London and an MA and BA (Hons.) in English Language and Literature from Oxford University. In October 2009 she was awarded a diploma with honours in Freelance and Travel Writing from the London School of Journalism.
